Located in Xidian Memory Innovation Park in Beijing, the Dragon Child Studio was created for a music company dedicated to promoting avant-garde music and catering to a young audience. The client's vision was to infuse the space with a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit while meeting the basic office needs. To achieve this, the project was positioned with an active and technological style.
What sets the Dragon Child Studio apart is its innovative use of materials. Stainless steel panels and sunshine panels dominate both the facade and interior, creating a futuristic and sleek atmosphere. These materials not only set the tone for the space but also serve as a contrast to the warm orange accents added to the interior. This combination of cold and warm elements enhances the overall attractiveness of the space.
The design team, consisting of Zhe Zhang, Cheng Lyu, and Qiaolian Li, utilized stainless steel panels, sunshine panels, and transparent acrylic panels to bring their vision to life. The result is a harmonious blend of textures and materials that exude a sense of modernity and sophistication.
The Dragon Child Studio's facade is a standout feature. The designer envisioned it as an "outsider" that didn't belong, and thus, it was designed as a "plug-in" element. A metal box with a strong contrast to the original masonry wall was inserted into the site, creating a recognizable shape with wide, transparent floor-to-ceiling windows. This design choice not only increases the exhibitionability of the space but also adds to its iconicity.
One of the challenges faced during the project was the retention of the original architectural design on the facade facing the main road. To maintain the integrity of the building, only the window frames and local wall surfaces were changed to a dark gray metal material. The main facade elements were extended to the street, seamlessly integrating the overall design.
The Dragon Child Studio was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious recognition highlights the project's outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, showcasing its contribution to quality of life improvements.
The Dragon Child Studio, with its futuristic aesthetic and innovative design, serves as an inspiration for workplaces seeking to create a vibrant and dynamic environment. It exemplifies the perfect balance between functionality and creativity, making it a true masterpiece in workplace interior design.
